I think I might be lonely
without you –
but somewhere in my heart
there stirs a hope
that all my yesterdays
don’t summarise
who I am
or hold my future hostage
to who I might have been
if you and I
had our happily ever after

(much as such things
don’t exist)

Time for me to walk
my own path
to look squarely at the dawn
and trust
that in its blinding light
my field of vision
