I know I have been pretty quiet of late, in both my anime and poetry modes. There are a whole lot of tedious RL reasons for that silence, none of which I need bore you with now.
But I am still watching anime and still scribbling – so, in order to tide you over, I thought I’d share some anime shorts I’ve come across on the DUST sci-fi & fantasy channel. Yeah, I know it’s a bit of a cheat – but it’s better than nothing, right?
Well, whatever. I don’t know what or if you know about DUST, but it’s a great channel that regularly pumps out terrific sci-fi and fantasy shorts that range from the oblique to the bizarre. If sci-fi and fantasy are your thing, it’s definitely worth checking out; I subscribe via YouTube.
And one of the many good things about DUST is that its offerings come in a variety of media, including anime. So I thought I’d share a couple of personal faves with you here.
Parallel Man
This is a dimension-hopping military adventure flick in which John Cho stars as an agent of the Ascendancy, a totalitarian regime that has conquered a dozen earths across a multitude of different dimensions. But just as the Ascendancy is preparing to invade the earth we call home, our man becomes the worm that turns…
Cyan Eyed
On a cyberpunk world where galleons fly through the sky, a pirate is transporting an especially precious cargo they have captured. That cargo, however, has an automaton who is hellbent on rescuing them from the pirate’s grasp. Unfortunately, the pirate has automata of their own…
Monju Hunters of Sofugan Island
In a polluted future in which the sky is forever shrouded in dust, an old man on an artificial island located in the deep ocean recalls the days of his youth and the vast creatures called “monju” which he and his family used to hunt…
In Orbit
An astronaut preparing to leave space station in earth orbit for a more prestigious posting is haunted by memories of the accident that flung her lover into space…
So there you have it…just a brief taster of the anime shorts one can find on the DUST channel. There are plenty more. You should check them out if sci-fi & fantasy anime is of interest to you…or even if you’re looking for something a little different. Enjoy!
